About

Mixed Media Production is creative storytelling studio creating high-impact documentary narratives that inspire audiences.

We take audiences on a journey past the edge of the frontier and into the unknown. Through our character-led stories, we translate complex challenges into urgent, strong narratives. We create impactful immersive storytelling by combining unique access to a wide range of people, as well as an ability to access places others can’t.

With a foundation born of adventure, exploration, and journalism, working anywhere from frozen peaks to flooded caves, from the glaciers of Greenland to the Amazon Rainforest, we have a proven track record of delivering captivating investigative stories from some of the most remote an inaccessible location on the planet. We don’t follow in the footsteps of others, we develop the stories, and our work makes news.

Director and founder Klaus Thymann is an award-winning photographer, filmmaker, journalist, scientist, and explorer whose unique capabilities and relationships offer unique access to hidden worlds. Consulting producer Allison Brown is a seasoned journalist, award-winning producer, and development lead who previously ran global teams at CNN and Vogue.

Our projects encompass films, streaming, digital features, and branded storytelling. Mixed Media Productions has worked with the New York Times, the Guardian, National Geographic, BBC, CNN, and other premium outlets, reaching millions of viewers worldwide.

Mission

At Mixed Media Production, we believe that real change begins with empathy—and that the most effective way to build empathy is through storytelling grounded in extraordinary individuals.

Our mission is to create exciting narratives following the adventure of individuals, frontloading the plot with adventure giving audiences a positive touchpoint for engaging with the characters and the subjects they represent. Today, many issues are both interconnected and complex, we take esoteric information and reformat it into powerful storytelling for mainstream audiences.

Our theory of change is simple. When audiences connect emotionally with powerful characters—scientists, indigenous leaders, explorers, artists, parents, children, and other everyday heroes —they become invested in the larger causes those individuals are working to transform.

We build bridges across disciplines and deliver stories that resonate far beyond the screen. Because when people care, they act. And stories are how they begin to care.

Collaboration is embedded in our process. We strive for lasting impact by co-developing long-term solutions in partnership with a local and international network of partners, including NGOs, advocates, scientists, policy makers, and national and intergovernmental bodies such as the United Nations.

Our perspective is different because we look first—before the headlines, by pursuing our curiosity and exploring where others don’t, we uncover stories the world hasn’t yet seen—but urgently needs to.
